Earth-fault and short-circuit indicators
Type EK-series
The earth-fault and short-circuit indicators of the type EK-series can be used in radial networks with one input and open-ring networks which are solidly earthed or low resistance earthed. The indication of short-circuits is done by one or three LEDs while earth-faults are indicated by a separate LED.
The display unit can be powered by an exchangeable lithium battery, an external AC- oder DC-power supply or by a combination of external power supply and battery. When the device is not equipped with a lithium battery the power supply must not fail during fault situations.
The devices can be equipped with up to three relay. A second relay can be used for a separate remote indication of earth-faults and short-circuits. The third relays has the function to remotely indicate a weak battery.
The EK-series is available in different versions which differ in the way if the sensors are connected to the display unit by copper cable or by fibre optic cable. All sensors are divisible and can be retrofitted on the cable.

Each type of connection offers following advantages:
fibre optic cables: Fibre optic cables establish a potential-free connection between sensor and display unit. The trip currents must therefore be adjusted at the sensor.
copper cables: Sensors with copper cable connection must be installed on screened sections of the monitored cable. The trip current can be changed anytime at the display unit.
