Design
The short circuit indicator type VE or VEE consists of a "detecting
set" and a reading instrument. The reading instrument is available
either as a surface mounted instrument ( VE type) or as a panel
instrument ( VEE type). For both versions a remote indication contact
is possible.
The detecting set consists of three single sensors. The output of these
sensors is combined in one junction and connected to the reading
instrument.
Function
The sensors are mounted on a potential- free high voltage cable. In
case of a fault, the short circuit current induces an impulse into the
metering coil, which is installed inside the housing of the sensor.
This impulse is transmitted to the reading instrument, if the impulse
level has reached or overshot the preadjusted operating point. The
operating point is adjustable in each sensor. The reading instrument is
equipped with a bistable flag indicator for each core. The impulse
which is transmitted from the sensor energizes the flag indicator and a
red painted plate becomes visible (short circuit indication). The
indication is reset through a magnetic-mechanic equipment. An auxiliary
magnet is being placed near the indication flag. Therefore the flag
indicator reverses its polarity and a black plate becomes visible. The
indicator is then reset. This version needs no auxiliary power supply.

Assembling
The
sensors are installed with steel frames on the cable. For this purpose,
the frame must be disconnected from the sensor housing. Then the frame
must be laid around the cable and has to be connected to the housing again with two screws. After aligning
the sensor, the sensor must be fixed on the cable. The metering cable,
coming from the sensor has to be wired according to the terminal table
shown on the reading instrument.
a) Surface-Mounted
Instrument
The surface mounted housing has to be fixed
with two screws
according to figure 1. The cable input for the connection cable is
either on the down side or on the backside of the reading instrument.

Panel-Mounted Instrument
The panel instrument (type VEE) has to fit
into a panel cutout with
the dimension of 68+0.7 x 68+0.7 mm ( DIN ). Spring clamps are used to
fix the housing in the cutout (figure 2). |
