Application
The short circuit
direction indicator is used in ring networks respectively in parallel
networks. The instrument can detect the increased flow of energy in
case of a short circuit. The direction of the current flow is indicated
by a blinking LED. |

General
Description
In case of a short
circuit, the phase position of the voltage is compared to the phase
position of the current. This is the basic function of the instrument.
The LED indicates the direction to the ”source” of the short circuit.
The LED blinks once a second.
At the same time the short circuit direction indicator can detect the
present direction of the current flow at any time. The direction of the
current flow is indicated by a blinking LED. The LED blinks once in 5
seconds (optional).
The short circuit direction indicator consists of a plastic housing.
The housing contains the power supply, the electronics and the LED
indications.
The KRA must be fixed with a steel tape directly on the unscreened high
voltage conductor.
The steel tape has to be wrapped around the high voltage conductor.
The steel tape is infinitely variable. Therefore it can be wrapped
around a conductor of 15-60mm diameter or around “flat conductors”.
In this connection please note the following: The steel tape has
magnetic effects, and the length of the tape influences the threshold
level of the short circuit indicator. In order to reach an operating
point as precise as possible, the dimensions of the high voltage
conductor must be indicated.
The short circuit direction indicator does not need any external power
supply. The electronics are supplied by an accumulator. The high
voltage conductor supplies the energy for charging the accumulator. The
accumulator is charged at an operating current of 10A upwards
